LGB G Scale Orient Express Steam Engine & Passenger Car Set 70685 Sound DMG C1

LGB Limited Run Orient Express Steam Engine & Passenger Car Set. This offering had a limited run of 1500 sets. This one is not in top condition. I tested the set and the engine worked fine in both directions with nice sounds. Both passenger cars have lighting, which works fine, and the chassis switch activated and turned off the lights as desired.

The issue with this set is that the inner box foam has deteriorated (I think from heat in storage) and made a mess of the set. It is like a gooey black paste. I have spent hours cleaning this set, but it is not perfect and could still use additional cleaning. When cleaning I only used water because I didn't want to discolor anything and wasn't sure what to use.

The set may clean substantially better with the right cleaning solution. The passenger cars cleaned better than the engine and there is still some foam residue in places on the set.

You will notice some of the brass handles and some detail plastic parts have corroded and need replacing or sanding and painting (if possible). Please review the pictures closely and understand this set is not perfect with deteriorated foam in various spots all around the set. I needed to discard all the paperwork that came with the set and the Styrofoam is soiled (as pictured). All the units have been protected with new tissue paper. The huge box has some wear and marks.
