KTM Hudson O-Scale Brass Steam Locomotive

KTM Hudson J-3a (4-6-4) Steam locomotive model imported by Precision Scale Co. 1985 in original brass with original box - Serial No.

Model has never been run and only briefly out on display otherwise it has been boxed for the past 25 years that I've owned this beautifully detailed late run Hudson for the New York Central Railroad - pilot model for this KTM issue made/detailed by Sofue and fabrication run supervised by Taki-san. This is a rare model, made in Japan, and an example of exquisite detailing, heavy construction in a flawless brass finish with a patina only the best models exhibit with age. This Hudson reflects careful attention to details such as the trailing truck casting texture and marks, booster engine complete with hard rockers, extensive piping, valves, hatches (several that open), running gear with reversing details, detailed pilot, steam and electrical lines all in place - nothing bent, dented or damaged in anyway! The massive PT-4/5 tender prototype only 2' shorter than the locomotive itself and weighing in 480K pounds! Is detailed complete with the track pan allowing re-watering at 50 MPH, detailed leading commonwealth truck (made by Lima on the prototype) followed by the five-axle centipede support of the heavy coal and water load, fully detailed with water hatch that opens, coal auger and attendant steam, air and water lines.

These locomotives were designed for high speed passenger service between Chicago and the east coast cities like New York and could make the 900+ mile trip with only a single stop for coal. They were built mostly by American Locomotive Company with some made by Lima Locomotive Works from 1927 to 1938 and this fine model represents a late model J-3a that was de-streamlined in later years after streamlining was abandoned by the railroad. This offer also includes the first edition book, 1974, "Thoroughbreds" by Alvin F. May in like new condition complete with book jacket cover which is a complete history of the NYC Hudson locomotives. This is a fabulous NYC Hudson model in like-new condition - a fine example of the best Japanese model building art!
